Mark Hoppus of Blink-182 announces his diagnosis with cancer.
One of Blink-182’s members surprised fans by announcing a serious health battle, stating that “it sucks” and that he “is scared.”
Mark Hoppus of Blink-182 has announced that he has cancer.
The 49-year-old musician alarmed fans on Wednesday when he shared an Instagram photo of himself sitting in what appears to be a hospital setting with an IV in his arm.
Along with it, he scribbled, “Hello, yes.” Please, one cancer treatment.”
Although the photo was quickly deleted, concerned fans took a screenshot.
Hours later, Hoppus confirmed the sad news on Twitter, writing: “I’ve been undergoing chemotherapy for cancer for the last three months.” I am suffering from cancer. It hurts and I’m afraid, but I’m fortunate to have incredible doctors, family, and friends to help me through this. I still have months of treatment ahead of me, but I’m attempting to maintain a sense of hope and optimism,” he continued. “I’m looking forward to being cancer-free and seeing you all at a concert in the near future. I wish you all the best.”
Blink-182 formed in 1992 in California and quickly became MTV darlings with songs like All The Small Things and What’s My Age Again? Their musical style, a fusion of pop music and traditional punk rock, helped them become global superstars, selling over 50 million albums worldwide.
The band gained widespread attention in 1999 for their video for What’s My Age Again?, which featured Hoppus, Travis Barker, and Tom DeLonge jogging naked in the street.
Hoppus is married to Everly Skye, an executive at MTV. They are the parents of an 18-year-old son named Jack.
