Edgar Garay, 27, died in a cliff fall while attempting to make a TikTok video. During a family holiday, Garay fell 21 meters to his death while trying to film a TikTok video at Cabo Rojo in Puerto Rico.

The US Coast Guard reported that Garay was visiting the scenic cliffs along the island’s southwestern coast when the tragedy occurred on Sunday night. His body was recovered the following day.

Edgar’s brother Carlos Garay told WTHR, “My brother had a TikTok account where he loved to post videos.”

“Unfortunately, he was trying to do that when he shouldn’t have been so close to the edge.”

Carlos posted a touching tribute on Facebook, expressing his love and grief for his brother who was taken from him too soon. He wrote about the sadness of receiving such shocking news and how it can impact friends and family.

Edgar was sightseeing with his cousin when the tragedy happened. His cousin had warned him multiple times to step back from the cliff, but when she turned around, she saw that he had vanished. A team of divers recovered Edgar’s body from an underwater cave a day later. He had sustained serious head injuries.

A US Coast Guard commander in San Juan, Capt. José E. Daz, said, “We send our deepest condolences to Edgar Garay’s family and friends.”

He was happy that the divers were able to get the body out of “such an inaccessible and difficult environment.”

A boat that was 154 feet long and a few Jayhawk helicopters were also used in the search.

Edgar was born in Puerto Rico, but when he was 5 years old, his family moved to the United States. They lived in the town of Columbus, Indiana.

Carlos said that people who were close to Edgar called him “Chuwey.”

A GoFundMe campaign is helping Edgar’s family raise money to bring his body back to Indiana.
