Who Gave Her the Microphone? Let’s break down this hilariously bad wedding speech that went viral on TikTok.
POV: You’re at a wedding and hear the most embarrassing speech you’ve ever heard. You record it, and it goes viral on TikTok. Well, one groom’s sister did exactly that.
Tori, who goes by @browneyed beautee on TikTok, posted the video in question. As of this writing, 8.9 million people have watched it, 923.8K people have liked it, and 11.5K people have said something about it.
The video lasts 1 minute and 49 seconds and gets off to a good start. Shannon, the speaker, starts by introducing herself and saying how long she’s known the bride, Tracy, a white woman, and how she doesn’t know the groom, Anthony, very well, but Tracy talks about him all the time.
Shannon’s awkward joke about how the groom “better take care of her girl” because she “knows where he lives” is a bit off the cuff, but we can just chalk that up to nerves.
The speech then takes a different turn at the one-minute mark…
The bride then tells the groom, “I swear to God that you are a member of the family. I’m not going to be racist, you guys, that’s all I’m saying.” Which doesn’t even make sense. Someone in the crowd can even be heard to say, “Oh my gosh.”
She then makes it almost into a joke by snapping her fingers and laughing while saying, “I’m going to be racist, OK?” Shannon goes on to say that people will talk about how the newlyweds are a mixed-race couple, but she loves that they “break the mold.”
She then tells the audience that she “loves Black people.” When they started to clap, one of the people there showed that not all heroes wear capes, putting us all out of our misery.
