Fans of ‘Predator’ were blown away by the trailer for ‘Prey,’ which did not leak online.
For the past 35 years, the Predator franchise has been trying to find its own style. For the next part of this long-running science fiction story, it seemed like the best idea to go as far back to basics as possible. On August 5, the much-anticipated prequel show Prey will start on Hulu.
Since the first time Arnold Schwarzenegger and his group of tough guys met the title character in John McTiernan’s classic, the series has been constantly changing. Three years later, there was a direct sequel, but since then, there have been two crossovers with Alien, Nimrod Antal’s standalone Predators, and Shane Black’s legacy continuation The Predator, none of which did as well as 20th Century Fox had hoped.
Disney now owns the rights, and when the first short teaser for Dan Trachtenberg’s latest movie came out last month, any worries about the Mouse House running a beloved R-rated property were eased a bit. But the full-length version came out before it was supposed to, and fans talked about it before the wide-ranging critiques came out.
Dead: Mission: Impossible Reckoning knows what it’s like for a first trailer to get out before it’s supposed to, and Paramount moved quickly to upload the official version soon after. Now that the internet knows about the Prey footage, we can probably expect something similar to happen, and the reactions show that the hype is real.
No Predator movie has ever come close to matching the magic of Arnold’s first one, but more and more people think that Prey might be the one.
