Jodie Turner-jewelry Smith’s was allegedly stolen during the Cannes Film Festival.
Jodie Turner-Smith claims she spent Sunday morning filing a police report after her jewelry was stolen during the 2021 Cannes Film Festival.
Turner-Smith, who was in Cannes for the premiere of her latest film, “After Yang,” tweeted Sunday, “didn’t expect to spend 2.5 hours in a police station on my final day in cannes, but here we are…”
The publicist for the 34-year-old actor confirmed to Variety that her client was at the station to file a report with the Cannes Police Department.
According to a local source, the missing pieces are worth “several tens of thousands of euros” and that Turner-Smith stayed at a Marriott during his visit, though this has not been confirmed.
According to the local newspaper Nice-Matin, there was no forced entry of the hotel room’s door, which is opened with a key card. An investigation is being conducted.
Turner-Smith also found time Sunday to attend the festival’s Kering’s Women in Motion talk, during which she discussed the lack of opportunities and representation for women and people of color in the film industry.
“I want to make a career out of not only working with incredible directors, but also working with women and women of color, and using the opportunities I have to give opportunities to people who are either shut out of the industry or are not given the level of respect they deserve as extremely talented individuals,” the “Queen & Slim” star explained.
“Some argue, ‘Well, there aren’t that many female directors.’ The reality is that there are a lot of talented female directors, but when you don’t have the opportunity or aren’t given the opportunity, that door isn’t opened for you, and it’s like, ‘Oh, where are they?’ But they weren’t allowed in.”
