I’m a hotel housekeeper, and this dirty stuff in your room should never be touched.
A housekeeper who used to work at a four-star hotel has given some tips on what to do and what not to do in a hotel room.
A TikTok user named @ sourqueen talked about the gross parts of cleaning, showing what’s really under your “clean” hotel room and the things she “wouldn’t use or touch” when staying at a hotel.
“Really, I’ve seen some strange things,” she said. “I have some scary tales to tell.”
The first thing the TikToker said she would never, ever use in a hotel room is the coffee pot or any of the glasses.
“Usually, the housekeeper just rinses these things off in the bathroom sink and dries them with the same rag they used to clean the rest of the room,” she said in a video that has been watched more than 534,000 times.
The next thing the former hotel cleaner wouldn’t touch was the ice bucket. She said that people often use them as “water dishes for their pets and other things,” but that sometimes people do “much worse things” to these buckets.
She said, “I don’t even want to talk about that.”
The bedspread seems to be the next thing she would “never, ever, ever” touch.
“Get that crap off that bed as soon as you walk in, and don’t put it back on. She said, “They are so dirty.” “They are only washed once a year, if that, unless there is a stain on them that can be seen.” So they don’t get washed for a whole year unless someone has bled, puked, pissed, or s—t on them.
In a follow-up video, she said that some hotels only clean their bedspreads, blankets, and comforters once a year, usually during a slow time, and that’s when we would take all of these things out of the rooms.
“At that time, those things were taken out of the room, taken down to the laundry room, and washed,” she said. “Other than that, they would just go back on the bed if they didn’t get too dirty or damaged during the year.”
Even though she knew that not every hotel would run the same way as the one she worked at, she said that a lot of people had messaged her to say that they had worked at hotels with the same level of cleanliness.
“I’m sorry to tell you this, but things aren’t as clean as you think,” she said next. “Not all hotels are gross, and maids don’t usually go out of their way to make hotels gross. We’re just following what we’ve been taught and told to do.”
The TikToker said that part of the problem is that housekeepers get in trouble if they take too long to clean a room or send too much laundry to be cleaned.
She told people, “Things aren’t always what they seem.” “When I check into a hotel room, I’m always careful.”
She did say, though, that her ability to read people’s minds can be annoying at times.
She said with a laugh, “My husband and I are making plans for our honeymoon right now, and he thinks I’m crazy because I keep talking about all of these things.”
