“Don’t Worry, Darling” Cast Drama: Harry Styles and Chris Pine.
Olivia Wilde directed the movie, which stars Florence Pugh. For many different reasons, the internet is going crazy over it. The biggest of these is “spitgate,” which a rep for Pine says is “a complete lie.”
Olivia Wilde’s new movie, Don’t Worry Darling, was shown for the first time at the Venice Film Festival on Monday.
A movie is getting a lot of attention for all the wrong reasons. There have been rumors that Wilde and the movie’s star, Florence Pugh, had very bad fights on set. But before we get into that, here’s everything you need to know about the movie itself.
What is the story of “Don’t Worry, Darling”?
The 1950s are the setting for the psychological thriller Don’t Worry, Darling. Jack Chambers and his wife Alice live in a company town in California. Styles, who is a very popular singer, plays Jack. Pugh plays Alice. When Alice starts to look into the company where her husband works, it turns into a mystery. Their happy life starts to fall apart as she looks into the company’s “Victory Project.”
OK, let’s get to what you really care about.
Why is there so much trouble between the actors?
How to start? From many different points of view, the movie Don’t Worry, Darling is controversial. Shia LaBeouf is a good place to start.

- Chris Pine’s “Don’t Worry” has become a meme If you tune out, everything will be fine.
- Harry Styles, Florence Pugh The trailer for “Don’t Worry, Darling” is very steamy.
After reports of fights on set, Wilde quickly fired LaBeouf from the role of Jack Chambers and replaced him with pop star Harry Styles.
In a profile for Variety, Wilde talked about LaBeouf.
“His method didn’t fit with the style I look for in my productions,” Wilde said. “He has a process that, in some ways, seems to need a fighting spirit. I don’t think that makes for the best performances, though. I think the best way to get people to do their best work is to make sure they feel safe and trust each other.”
LaBeouf, on the other hand, says he wasn’t fired but quit, and he sent Variety a video message from Wilde in which she seems to ask LaBeouf to come back to the set because she wasn’t “ready to give up on this yet.”
Wilde seems to be talking about a fight with Pugh in the message:
“Wilde says in the video, “You know, I think this might be a wake-up call for Miss Flo, and I want to know if you’re willing to give this a try with me, with us. If she really commits, if she really puts her mind and heart into it at this point, and if you two can make peace — and I respect both of your points of view, but if you two can do it, what do you think?”
People online are now spreading rumors about a rift between Wilde and Pugh. There are thousands of tweets and a lot of talk about the show online. Fans look at social media posts and group photos of the cast to figure out what they mean and how they feel. At a press conference for Don’t Worry Darling before it was shown at the Venice Film Festival, Wilde was asked about the rumored split.
Wilde said, “I can’t say enough about how honored I am to have her as our lead.” “She’s great in the movie, and I don’t know what to say about all the noise and gossip in the tabloids. I mean, the internet feeds itself. I don’t think I need to give anything because I think it’s getting enough food.”
‘Spitgate’ gets internet drooling
But on Monday, the internet went crazy over any interaction between the cast members at the press conference and the movie showing at the Venice Film Festival. People are talking about everything the movie’s stars did, from how they sat in the theater to how they answered questions at a press conference. People on social media are going crazy over a crazy idea: that Harry Styles spit in Chris Pine’s face before the movie was shown at the film festival.
People are looking at this short video clip very carefully. After giving it a lot of thought, I am sure that Styles did not spit on Pine because that would be crazy. And on Tuesday, a person who works for Pine said that the spit story was “a complete lie and the result of a strange online illusion that is clearly false and leads to silly speculation.” In a statement to People, the representative said, “There is nothing but respect between these two men, and any suggestion to the contrary is a clear attempt to make drama where there is none.”
The story has other parts as well. It is said that Styles and Wilde started dating while they were filming Don’t Worry Darling. Wilde used to be married to Jason Sudeikis, who plays Ted Lasso. Sudeikis recently gave Wilde what are said to be custody papers while she was on stage at Cinema-Con in Las Vegas.
When will Don’t Worry Darling be on?
Don’t Worry, Darling just made its debut at the Venice Film Festival, but you won’t be able to see it in the US until Sept. 23.
What do people say about the movie?
So far, early reactions to the movie have been mixed. At the time this was written, the movie had a 39% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a 49 rating on Metacritic, which is a sister site to CNET. Those aren’t good scores, especially when you consider that critics loved Wilde’s first movie, Booksmart, which came out in 2019.

- In the trailer for “Don’t Worry, Darling,” Harry Styles and Florence Pugh make out.
Most reviews seem to think that the movie needs more work. Hannah Strong, a critic, said it was “fairly boring and unimaginative,” and Justin Chang, a writer for the Los Angeles Times, said it failed “mostly because of a lack of imagination.”
It’s important to note, though, that the movie got a standing ovation at the Venice Film Festival and that Florence Pugh’s performance has been praised by both critics and people who saw it at the festival.
