Chris Daughtry, a former American Idol contestant and rocker, and his wife Deanna are mourning the death of their eldest daughter, Hannah.
The singer’s rep said in a statement to E! News on Saturday, Nov. 13, that she was found dead at her home in Fentress County, Tennessee, on Friday, Nov. 12, and that local officials are currently investigating her death. When E! News contacted the police and the coroner’s office, they had no immediate comment.
Hannah’s parents paid homage to her on Instagram after she died. “My firstborn,” Deanna said on her page. Hannah, I adore you to the moon and back. As we lament the loss of my daughter Hannah, our family would like to thank you all for the outpouring of affection.”
“We are awaiting the autopsy results to discover how Hannah sustained the injuries that resulted in her death,” Deanna continued. “Our hearts are shattered.”
“The Daughtry family thanks you for your understanding and respectfully requests privacy during this extremely difficult time,” the message said. More information will be released at a later time. The investigation into this unfortunate death continues.”
Chris later posted a touching homage to his mother on his Instagram page. He added beneath a photo of Hannah, “I am still processing the last 24 hours.” “I am completely heartbroken and devastated.” I just lost my mother to cancer, but I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to say my final goodbyes, and I was processing it alone. We never got to say our final goodbyes to Hannah, and this is yet another devastating blow to our family.”
“Thank you all for their kind messages and sympathy,” he continued. They are deeply felt and valued. As we try to recover from this heartbreaking loss, I’m now taking time to be present with my family. I adore you, Hannah. I’m missing you. I wish I could take you in my arms. This is excruciatingly painful.”
Hannah, 23, and her older brother Griffin, 23, are Deanna’s children from a previous marriage. Chris, 41, and Deanna, 48, who married in 2000, have twin daughters Adalynn Rose and Noah James, who are 10 years old. Hannah leaves behind two children, Liam, 7, and Lily, a 20-month-old daughter. The family made no mention of the children in their statement. Deanna has published numerous photos of Liam at home with her and Chris’ twins on Instagram over the last few years.
“I’m very grateful to have my mother, who has taught me so much & has been by my side through thick and thin,” Hannah posted on her own page in March. My mother is the reason for so many blessings in my life, including my children enjoying the finest lives I could possible give them. I’m also grateful to two wonderful people who chose to adopt my baby as their own and are providing her with the greatest possible care.”
Chris, who rose to popularity as the frontman of the rock band Daughtry after appearing as a finalist on American Idol’s fifth season in 2006, has put his band’s tour on hold until November 16.
“All currently scheduled Daughtry gigs for the coming week have been cancelled or postponed due to the tragic loss of Chris and Deanna Daughtry’s daughter, Hannah,” the pair stated in a statement to E! News.
Hundreds of people, including music colleagues, sent their condolences to the Daughtrys following the death of their daughter.
Constantine Maroulis, a fellow American Idol graduate and Broadway star, commented on Chris’ post, “Love you brother.” “Please accept my heartfelt condolences.”
“Love you guy,” wrote Daughtry bassist Josh Paul.
“Beautiful Hannah and Deanna,” singer Lee Ann Womack remarked on Deanna’s Hannah tribute post.
I adore both of you.”
