Cam Ayala from “The Bachelorette” has her leg cut off.
Cam Ayala, a former contestant on “The Bachelorette,” had a leg amputated this week, as his most recent social media post showed.
“Gotta lotta BROMENTUM with @b.rapp #amputee #CAMputee #FAITHoverFEAR,” said the caption for an Instagram photo of Ayala in a hospital bed at Texas Medical Center, where it looked like most of his right leg had been cut off.
The surgery was done because Ayela, who is 33, has had lymphedema for a long time. According to the Mayo Clinic, the condition happens when the lymph vessels don’t drain the lymph nodes well enough. This causes a buildup of fluid in the affected area of the body, which is usually the arms or legs.
The Texas native first appeared on Season 15 of “The Bachelorette,” which premiered in 2019 and starred interior designer Hannah Brown as the show’s main eligible single woman.
Ayala, who also competed on the sixth season of “Bachelor in Paradise,” talked about how his diagnosis seemed to play a role in how things turned out for him on “The Bachelorette” in a recent interview.
“To make a long story short, it began well. I got the first rose before the first impression rose, which had never happened on the show before, the sales manager said in a “Maybe God” podcast episode from June 15.
“Honestly, I felt good very quickly when I was out there and got that first rose,” he said. “And that was the real curse. Because between the men in the house, my back was a very big target. About three weeks into the trip, I told the bachelorette about my long-term illness, which is called lymphedema.“
As I told her about my problems, some of the other guys in the mansion felt the need to talk to her afterward and basically accuse me of making up this medical sob story so I could get a “pity rose.” “Unfortunately, she believed them, and I was sent home that night,” he said.
In another of Ayala’s recent Instagram posts, from four days ago, the self-proclaimed “dance floor king” appears in a video where he seems to get ready for and go through his “final” day of exercise before the amputation.
“THIS IS THE LAST TIME I WILL PUT ON AND TAKE OFF A FULL COMPRESSION SLEEV… “23 years of Love/Hate” and “My LAST workout with my God-given legs #SweatCheck” are written in text on top of the video.
