Caitlyn Jenner arrives in Sydney for Celebrity Big Brother, despite the fact that thousands of Australians are still stranded.
Thousands of Australians remain stranded overseas, yet Caitlyn Jenner has reportedly arrived in Sydney to star in a reality television show.
At the moment, entering Australia is nearly impossible. Except, it appears, if one is a member of Hollywood royalty.
Caitlyn Jenner, a reality star, reportedly purchased one of a severely limited number of airline seats in order to compete in Channel 7’s Celebrity Big Brother.
According to a group representing stranded Australians abroad, the fact that a celebrity can fly in while others struggle is a “slap in the face.”
Jenner is unlikely to cover the exorbitantly high airfare that many simply cannot afford. If she wins, she will reportedly be able to return to the United States half a million dollars richer.
There are believed to be up to 34,000 Australians overseas attempting to return home, but only 3000 weekly flights. That’s down from nearly 6500 last week, when the Federal Government agreed to further restrict arrivals in an effort to mitigate the risk of additional covid leaks from hotel quarantine.
Nonetheless, The Daily Telegraph reported on Friday that Jenner had arrived in Sydney. Jenner is the mother of Kendall and Kylie Jenner and the stepmother of Robert, Kourtney, Kim, and Khloe Kardashian.
She is now believed to be in quarantine at a hotel.
It is unknown whether she has taken the place of an Australian, as many celebrities who enter Australia do so on their own dime.
According to a spokesman for the Stranded Aussies Action Network, there was no transparency regarding who qualified to fly into Australia and that more clarity was needed, particularly given the caps had been halved.
(Jenner’s arrival) is unmistakably a slap in the face to Australia’s stranded citizens.
“However, it is not the celebrities who are to blame; it is failed government policies that enable this to occur.”
According to the newspaper, Celebrity Big Brother will be filmed at Sydney Olympic Park, near the state’s largest vaccination hub.
Sonia Kruger will host Celebrity Big Brother, which is scheduled to premiere later this year.
Jenner shared an Instagram photo of herself wearing a “Caitlyn for California” T-shirt prior to departing the United States. She is running for governor of the country’s largest state in a September election.
Jenner, a former Olympian, has previously competed on reality shows in the United States and the United Kingdom, as well as, of course, Keeping up with the Kardashians.
