Ashley Judd, an actress and activist, has aged very well over the course of her successful acting career. From her first big role in the NBC show Sister to her role in the Divergent movie series, Shailene Woodley has been a big star. In recent years, there have been rumors that she had plastic surgery, which she denied in an article for The Daily Beast in April 2012.
“The conversation about women’s bodies happens mostly outside of us, but it is also aimed at us (and marketed to us) and used to define and control us,” the Dolphin Tale actress wrote. “We are described in great detail, our faces and bodies are looked at and picked apart, and our worth is decided and given based on how much of a person we are as a physical object… As an actress and a woman who is sometimes available to the media, I am painfully aware of the talk about women’s bodies, which often turns to me.
Throughout the article, Ashley talked about how people have called her face “puffier” than it was in the past. She then said that she took the time to talk about the untrue rumors because “the conversation was pointedly mean, sexist, and misogynistic, and it shows what all girls and women in our culture have to go through every day.”
After listing all the names and rumors she had heard about herself, Ashley said that she hoped “sharing her thoughts” would start a new conversation about why a puffy face was even a topic of conversation.
In her piece, she asked, “Who makes the crazy jump from being sick or gaining weight over the winter to the conclusion that they need plastic surgery?” “This craziness has to stop because, even though it seems to be about me, it’s about all girls and women… It affects all of us in many bad ways, like how we see ourselves, how we act in relationships and at work, and how we feel about our worth, value, and potential as people. Join the conversation and help change it.”
Even though she had to deal with the pressures of beauty standards, the Missing alum had to deal with other hard problems from 2021 to 2022. Ashley told everyone in February 2021 that she had broken her leg badly while hiking in the Republic of the Congo.
She wrote on Instagram that month, “Without my Congolese brothers and sisters, my internal bleeding would have probably killed me, and I would have lost my leg.”
Ashley and her half-sister Wynonna Judd told the world in April 2022 that their mother, country singer Naomi Judd, had killed herself.
“Today, we sisters went through a tragedy,” they wrote on Twitter. “Mental illness was the cause of the death of our beautiful mother. We are in pieces. We are in a deep state of grief, and we know that everyone else loved her as much as we did. We are in a place we don’t know.”
Even though Ashley has had hard times, she keeps going and encourages others to love themselves.
